MEMBERS of Parliament (MPs) were reminded to uphold their pledge under the Rukun Negara by maintaining good behaviour and morality while in the august House.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul warned that action would be taken against MPs who failed to heed Parliament’s Standing Orders.
“We took the oath earlier, and I hope that all of you will uphold it, especially by maintaining good behaviour and morality while in the House.
“Practise this in all your words and actions,” he said when addressing the House.
Later during proceedings, Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor reminded MPs from both sides of the aisle to maintain decorum when interjecting.
“The sheer number of questions takes up a lot of time.
“I appeal for all of you to adhere to the House’s standing orders regardless of whether you are in the government or opposition,” he said.
He pointed out that the standing orders clearly state that questions do not need to be answered if they are out of context or if they repeat a similar question.
“The minister has the leeway to not answer or choose only one to respond to. The standing orders are clear,” he said.
