Motorcyclists killed in Muar expressway crash involving lorry


MUAR: Two motorcyclists were killed in a crash involving a lorry and three motorcycles at KM133.7 northbound on the North South Expressway.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the accident occurred at about 11pm on Saturday (Nov 22).

He said two riders died at the scene due to severe head and body injuries.

Preliminary investigations showed a 20-year-old local man on a motorcycle was heading towards Tangkak when he crashed into the rear right side of a lorry driven by a 27-year-old man.

“The impact caused the rider to lose control and veer into the right lane,” he said.

“He was then hit by two other motorcycles coming from behind,” he added on Sunday (Nov 23).

ACP Raiz Mukhliz said the crash involved four vehicles and resulted in two fatalities.

He said the victims, aged 20 and 24, were declared dead at the scene by medical officers, adding another motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and is being treated at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz added that the lorry driver was unharmed and said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged witnesses to contact Insp Muhamad Azim Aziz at 018 970 4143 and said

they can also visit the Muar Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division to assist.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz reminded road users to remain cautious and obey traffic rules.

He said safety must be prioritised to ensure all reach their destinations safely.
