Penang Princess, luxury dining experience on water set for 2027 debut

GEORGE TOWN: Penang’s first high-end dining and sightseeing vessel is expected to be completed in 2027.

The 61.58m Penang Princess would feature multiple fine-dining restaurants, bars, a performance deck, and an observation terrace.

Ocean World Cruises Berhad developed it in partnership with Viet Princess Cruiser Corporation, Vietnam Shipbuilding Engineering Group and Ships Classification Malaysia.

The project announcement followed a memorandum of understanding signed in Penang this week.

Penang Port Commission chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin, who witnessed the signing, said the cruise would become “Penang’s first high-end dining and sightseeing vessel” and serve as a new draw for visitors seeking premium experiences.

“Penang has long excelled on land. Now it is time to let people see the island from the sea,” said Yeoh, who is also Tourism Malaysia deputy chairman.

Ocean World Cruises Berhad said the ship’s design will blend British colonial elements with Oriental touches, inspired by a recent site study in George Town.

The vessel was also planned as a venue for weddings, corporate functions, cultural showcases and tourism events.

The developers said a second Penang-based vessel was being considered for the future, with long-term plans to expand the fleet to Singapore.
