KOTA KINABALU: Solving the perennial water and electricity issues in Sabah requires a combination of resources from the state and Federal Government, says Barisan Nasional’s Tanjong Kapor candidate Kevin Lee Sip Kim.

This also requires allocating resources to the right areas, he added.

Lee said he aimed to solve the long-standing problems for his constituents within three years if elected.

"The frequent water and electricity disruptions are a main issue faced by all Sabahans.

“Only by integrating resources from the federal and state governments, as well as allocating resources in the right areas, will we be able to solve this issue effectively," he said in his election manifesto on Friday (Nov 21).

Lee also pledged to curb corruption to ensure transparency in the allocation of state resources.

"I want to ensure that government aid is distributed fairly, transparently, and free from all corruption so that it can (reach) those who need it the most in Tanjong Kapor," he added.

Lee said he also wants to strengthen the agriculture and tourism sector in the constituency to stimulate the local economy.

He plans to bring in experts to train farmers, breeders and fishermen in the use of modern techniques to increase yield and income.

"I also want to capitalise on the strength of nature and eco-tourism like Cape Town in South Africa, accompanied by improvements to basic infrastructure," he added.

Lee said he would see that more youngsters opt for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to develop a skilled workforce in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), electrical engineering, information technology, and creative design.

Another item in his manifesto is reviving flights to Kudat’s airfield to attract more tourists and investors to the area known as the Tip of Borneo.

"This could also revive the local economy through tourism and manufacturing," he added.

Improving road infrastructure and establishing a port in Kudat to create a free trade zone are also on his agenda.

Lee also wants to revive the roll-on/roll-off ferry terminal that has remained unused for years.

"I want to turn it into a maritime tourism hub, which will include island visits and new tourism routes that could make Tanjong Kapor the tourism hub of north Sabah," he added.

Lee is facing an 11-cornered fight against Perikatan Nasional, Anak Negeri, Parti Bumi Kenyalang, Parti Impian Sabah, Parti Warisan, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Sabah STAR, Parti Damai Sabah, and two Independents.
