Barisan will accept MIC's decision whether to stay or leave with an open heart, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional will keep an open mind on any decision MIC eventually makes, including the party’s resolution to leave the coalition, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).

The Barisan chairman said he took this stance as he did not intend to interfere in MIC’s internal affairs, which he stressed were the party’s own prerogative.

"Whatever decision they make, we will accept it with an open and sincere heart," he told reporters after attending the Global Chinese Economic & Technology Summit 2025 on Wednesday (Nov 19).

The summit, themed "Global Leadership & Partnerships in the Era of Digital and Green Transformation", was held at Wisma MCA here.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong was also present.

On Sunday (Nov 16), delegates at MIC’s 79th annual general meeting voted unanimously to support a resolution for the party to withdraw from Barisan, although the final decision was left to party president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran and the top leadership.

Delegates also gave the leadership the mandate to explore potential cooperation with Perikatan Nasional when deemed appropriate.

Commenting on Barisan deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan’s remarks that the coalition would arrange a meeting with MIC’s top leaders to discuss the matter, Ahmad Zahid said such an approach was the most suitable.

"That is the best way forward. Whatever the outcome, it is up to the party concerned," he said.
