KUALA LUMPUR: The investigation into the assault case involving former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli (pic) is ongoing, says the Home Minister.

Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said police have opened an investigation paper into the assault involving the Pandan MP’s child.

He said the investigation is under Sections 324 and 352 of the Penal Code and Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

“The investigation is being carried out thoroughly,” he said.

Saifuddin added that statements are being taken from witnesses and relevant individuals.

He added that evidence, including CCTV recordings from the scene and nearby areas, is being collected and analysed.

“The police remain committed to conducting the investigation professionally and in accordance with legal procedures,” he said.

Saifuddin said any developments would be communicated appropriately once the investigation is completed.

He said the government takes all forms of violence and crime seriously, regardless of the victim’s background, adding appropriate action will be taken against those involved if found guilty.

In August, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed an incident at a Putrajaya shopping mall involving Rafizi’s 12 year old son.

Rafizi, who is also the Pandan MP, said the incident happened as his wife and son were about to leave the mall.

He said two men on a motorcycle, dressed in black and wearing full face helmets, were involved, and added that one man allegedly dragged his son before stabbing him with a syringe.
