KUALA LUMPUR: A brief commotion erupted in Parliament after questions were raised over the current status of Bersatu following reports of alleged infighting within the party.
During his debate speech at the Dewan Rakyat, Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) “congratulated” Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin (PN-Putrajaya) for his appointment as the new opposition leader.
“Congratulations to Putrajaya MP, who is rumoured to be the next opposition leader.
“Condolences to Larut MP (Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin), who will be terminated from his position. Good luck, Yang Berhormat Putrajaya,” he said when debating the Supply Bill 2026 at the committee stage for the Health Ministry on Tuesday (Nov 18).
The remarks by Sany, who is a member of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), caused a brief commotion in the Lower House when several opposition MPs described it as inappropriate for the debate session.
Deputy Speaker Alice Lau then reprimanded the Sany and reminded him not to engage in political discussions in the august House.
Earlier, it was reported that an internal draft document dated Nov 10, allegedly a confidential letter from Bersatu leadership, urged for action to be taken against certain individuals to restore unity within the party.
The letter, which was circulated without an official letterhead, was marked “confidential” and proposed that Radzi, who is also the Bersatu vice-president, should replace Hamzah as the opposition leader.
In a similar development, it was reported that a meeting between Bersatu leaders is set to take place at the residence of party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in Bukit Damansara.
It was also alleged that a gathering organised by those who claim support for Hamzah will be held outside Muhyiddin’s residence.
