'First-class building, third-class facilities': Johor state assembly sitting interrupted due to technical difficulties

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor state assembly sitting here was interrupted for about 30 minutes following technical difficulties involving the audio system.

“I would like to remind the technicians to quickly fix the system. We still have speakers who will be giving their speeches today, but I will not continue this sitting if the system is not repaired.

“I do not want us to be unfair to those who are debating,” said state assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi during the sitting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Kota Iskandar.

Puad made the remark after Alwiyah Talib (PN-Endau) delivered her debate on the 2026 Johor Budget.

He also expressed his frustration when the microphone went silent multiple times while Alwiyah was delivering her speech.

“I am honestly very embarrassed by what is happening. This is what happens when contractors do not perform (their duties).

“This is what people mean when they say we have a first-class building but third-class facilities,” he said.

Earlier, the state assembly sitting was dismissed for a lunch break due to the same issue.

A similar situation had also occurred during the state assembly sitting in May last year, during which Puad stressed that such technical difficulties were embarrassing and should not happen again.
