KOTA KINABALU: There are no ideal coalitions that work perfectly together, but it is possible to achieve political stability and strengthen the country, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar stated that as a coalition opposing corruption and abuse in any form, Pakatan Harapan will draw the line when a person or leader in the unity government is charged and proven guilty of graft.
He stressed that in these cases, it is proof, not perception, that matters.
He was responding to questions regarding Pakatan’s willingness to work with parties and leaders implicated in corrupt practices—a move seen as inconsistent with Pakatan’s strong anti-corruption stance.
"If there are charges, then that is where we draw the line," he said, highlighting the importance of distinguishing between proof and perception.
Anwar acknowledged that coalitions and election candidates are not perfect and noted the government’s limitations in eradicating graft.
"We cannot get ideal coalitions but we have to make sure there is stability and to make a strong nation," he reiterated.
He cited his action against a major drug cartel that had operated for over 20 years in peninsula Malaysia, using containers marked as e-waste.
Despite waiting a year for a report after taking office as Prime Minister, none was presented, even though the topic was widely discussed.
Eventually, investigations revealed the involvement of syndicates and politicians, with some people killed during these crimes.
Anwar said that when there are talks of illegal activities, they remain perceptions until proof is established and culprits are brought to court.
