Family shocked as 60kg python crashes through bathroom ceiling

SUNGAI PETANI: A teacher encountered a 60kg reticulated python after it fell through her bathroom ceiling in Taman Bandar Baru PKNK here on Wednesday (Nov 12).

She said her 15-year-old daughter first noticed the broken part of the bathroom ceiling at about 4pm after returning from school and felt too scared to use the bathroom.

“I was in a meeting at the time when my daughter sent me a photo of the ceiling that had collapsed. When I got home, I checked the bathroom and saw what looked like a piece of batik cloth sticking out of the broken ceiling.

“I wondered how batik cloth could end up there. My daughter then zoomed in with her phone camera and that’s when we realised it was actually part of a snake’s body,” she said as reported by Sinar Harian.

She contacted the Civil Defence Force (APM) for help in removing the reptile, only to realise its massive size when it fell from the ceiling.

“When the python was pulled out and dropped down, I was shocked by how huge it was. I thought it was an ordinary snake at first… I’ve never seen a snake that big right in front of me. It was so massive that I screamed ‘anaconda’,” she said.

She added that the family was fortunate to have discovered it early, saying she could not imagine what would have happened if such a large snake had made its way into the house.

She believes the python may have entered through a soursop tree behind the house, having noticed a toppled flower pot two days earlier.

“This is the first time a snake has entered the house. There’s a swampy area behind the property, so it may have come from there. I had to wash the floor and carpet because there was a strong musky smell,” she said.

The incident left her and her two children traumatised, and they are now extra cautious each time they use the bathroom.
