Sabah polls: STAR named 29 candidates, awaits Upko's response for cooperation

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah STAR has named 29 election candidates, mostly new faces, as it keeps its doors open for cooperation with Upko, said its president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

Kitingan, who will be defending his Tambunan seat, said he is waiting for Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick to respond and hopefully, meet up for a meeting on Thursday (Nov 13).

“We hope to meet up with Upko tomorrow. In fact, we were waiting for them today, but since we already set this day for our announcement, we just proceeded first,” he said.

He added that Sabah STAR hopes to contest a total of 40 seats.

Asked why he has not revealed the 11 names, he said part of the reason is that they want to talk to Upko first, but assured that the full list will be out by Friday (Nov 14).

Kitingan also expects to work with other like-minded parties after the state election, with the hope of forming the next state government.
