MetMalaysia issues advisory on tropical storm Fung Wong


KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued an advisory regarding the severe tropical storm Fung Wong, detected at 8am at latitude 19.8°N and longitude 117.9°E, approximately 335km northwest of Laoag City, Philippines.

The National Weather and Earthquake Operations Centre of MetMalaysia reported that the storm is moving northwest at a speed of 15 km/h, with maximum wind speeds of 111 km/h.

MetMalaysia noted that the storm is about 1,439km northeast of Kudat, Sabah.

"This situation may cause strong winds and rough seas in the South China Sea waters," the statement said.

While affecting the Philippines, Typhoon Fung-Wong resulted in 18 fatalities and displaced 1.4 million residents. – Bernama
