MELAKA: Melaka is determined to build a generation of young locals who are skilled in technology and innovation, said Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh.
The Melaka Chief Minister said the state’s strong participation in the Malaysia Techlympics 2025 National Finals shows Melaka’s commitment to developing youth talent in science, technology and innovation.
“Malaysia Techlympics is not merely a competition but a platform to nurture young minds in technology, encouraging them to explore, create and innovate across generations.
“Although interest in participation has slightly declined this year, the foundation we have built remains strong,” Ab Rauf said after officiating the closing ceremony of the event at Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh here on Monday (Nov 11).
Also present was Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang.
The event organised by the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) saw more than 1.8 million participants.
The Malaysia Techlympics 2025 also achieved dual recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records during the event for the largest participation and the most drones flown simultaneously indoors.
Ab Rauf said that the programme also drew participants and visitors from neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia and China.
"The state government continues to give full attention to talent development through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as well as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education to strengthen Melaka’s competitiveness in the field of future technology,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chang said the Malaysia Techlympics initiative is one of Mosti’s main efforts to promote the culture of science, technology and innovation in line with the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Action Plan 2021 to 2030.
"Mosti is committed to ensuring that the younger generation is ready to face a future driven by emerging technologies such as autonomous robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), which are becoming more widely used across various sectors.
"As part of our inclusion efforts, the Malaysia Techlympics 2025 Outreach Programme has organised 85 inclusive events in various locations, targeting participation from rural students to ensure that no group was left behind,” he said.
