Sarawak aims for high-income, innovation-driven economy by 2030, says Premier


SIBU: Sarawak is intensifying its initiatives to cultivate a workforce that is prepared to meet the evolving demands of contemporary industries, says its Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Our aim is to develop a high-income, innovation-driven economy by the year 2030,” he said during his address at the 10th convocation ceremony of the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) on Sunday (Nov 9)

He said that institutions like UTS play a role in developing talent.

He also emphasised the importance of investing in digital infrastructure to promote e-learning opportunities.

“Education acts as a catalyst for economic growth, social inclusivity, and long-term environmental sustainability,” said Abang Johari.

He also said that the government’s commitment to securing a high standard of education for future generations, nurturing local talent, and ensuring that these individuals ultimately contribute to and uplift the state of Sarawak.
