PETALING JAYA: An empty six-car KTM Komuter train overshot the end of a track at the Butterworth station.

However, passenger services are continuing via alternative platforms, said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB).

“No injuries or loss of life were reported,” it said in a statement.

KTMB said its technical team arrived on site shortly after the incident at Platform 4 at 6.01am yesterday.

Passenger services at Butterworth remain in operation, with some platform changes.

“All passenger trains at Butterworth are operating as usual via Platforms 1 and 2, including ETS and KTM Komuter Utara services.

“Platforms 3 and 4 are temporarily closed to facilitate repairs and safety inspections,” the statement said.

KTMB added that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.

On Thursday evening, a KTMB-operated cargo locomotive that runs on diesel parked near Tasek, Ipoh, caught fire.

A Facebook post by the Ipoh fire station estimated that 20% of the locomotive was destroyed in the incident, which did not cause any injuries.
