THE decision by three Indian women to don the hijab at their friend’s wedding has gone viral in a positive way, Harian Metro reported.
With the intent to show respect for the solemnisation of marriage and the hijab-only area, Thivya, 20, Gayathiri Sugumaran, 26, and Sharvini Murugiah, 29, were bridesmaids for their best friend during the ceremony held at a surau in Chemor, Perak, last Sunday.
They arrived dressed in full baju kurung, complete with hijab and shawl.
Their thoughtful gesture caught the attention of their friend, Nur Liyana Zulaikha Mat Rashid, 23, who shared the heart-warming moment on social media.
“Actually, they were only required to wear a shawl, but they insisted on donning the full hijab. So I helped them put it on,” said Nur Liyana.
“They had never attended a Malay wedding before, so they were very excited.
“They also expressed admiration for Muslim women who wear the hijab, saying it isn’t easy,” she added.
> The daily also reported that for the past five years, a woman in Mukim Ulu Melaka, Langkawi, has been feeding more than 40 stray cats around Pasar Awam Kuah.
Every day, Sarina Mat Salleh, 54, rides her motorcycle to the market carrying a plastic bag filled with different types of cat food.
According to her, feeding the animals gives her a deep sense of fulfilment.
“Every month, I spend about RM500 buying 50kg of cat food, both dry and wet,” she said.
Sarina said she started feeding the strays during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown when many premises were closed and the cats were left starving.
