A HEALTHCARE worker was shocked to see a patient crying after she was divorced by her husband, apparently for being examined by a male doctor, Kosmo! reported.

The woman, who was being treated for appendicitis at a government hospital while she was pregnant with her second child, received a voice message from her husband, saying that their marriage would be dissolved automatically if a male doctor examined her.

According to the worker who recounted the incident, the patient was crying due to the voice note message her husband texted her.

“At government hospitals, patients usually cannot choose whether to be treated by a male or female doctor due to shortage of staff. After the (male) doctor finished the examination, the patient started crying,” the worker was quoted as saying.

She said the patient only discovered the voice message after the physical examination had been carried out by the male doctor in the presence of a female nurse.

The story sparked widespread reactions online, with many questioning the husband’s action in medical situations which required immediate attention.

Several netizens commented on the incident, with one named Syafire saying she had witnessed a female patient being examined by a male doctor with full respect.

Another netizen named Khalis noted that government hospitals did not have the option to choose an examining doctor’s gender because there were too many patients and not enough doctors.

> Harian Metro reported that local songstress Syura Badron, 39, is recovering in a regular ward after being admitted to the high dependency unit (HDU) with a blood infection on Oct 25.

The singer was initially admitted to the HDU after suffering persistent fever, cough and flu-like symptoms for a week.

Syura, who is known for her Nazam Berkasih hit song, shared her experience on Instagram and thanked her fans for their support and messages.

“I’ve been discharged from the HDU. It wasn’t comfortable there because I couldn’t go to the toilet,” she quipped.

She said she is ready to face the next stage of treatment in the regular ward and hoped that she’ll be discharged soon.
