GYEONGJU (South Korea): Congratulatory messages from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) leaders for Malaysia’s successful hosting of the recent 47th Asean Summit underscore the country’s ability to lead with wisdom and determination, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"I had the opportunity to have a casual meeting with fellow leaders.

"We exchanged views on various current and regional issues, including efforts to strengthen a more equitable and resilient economic cooperation, in a warm and friendly atmosphere,” Anwar said in a statement on Friday (Oct 31).

Earlier, he was welcomed by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who greeted all Apec economic leaders, followed by a photo session.

Among the leaders present at the AELM are Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Chilean President Gabriel Boric.

Malaysia is one of Apec's 12 founding member countries along with Australia, Brunei, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the United States.

Apec comprises 21 economies, encompassing nearly three billion people, 62% of global gross domestic product and 48% of world trade as of 2021. – Bernama
