EPF voluntary contributions reach RM14.13bil from 1.12 million members

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1.12 million Employees Provident Fund members have made voluntary contributions amounting to RM14.13bil as of August, says the Finance Ministry.

The ministry said various initiatives are in place to help Malaysians build sufficient retirement savings through matching incentives, expanded voluntary schemes and financial planning awareness.

Under Budget 2025, the i Saraan programme is enhanced with a matching incentive of 20%, capped at RM500 a year and RM5,000 lifetime.

“The enhancement, effective January 1, 2025, benefits existing and new i Saraan participants,” the ministry said in a written reply on Wednesday (Oct 29).

It added that contributions reached RM2.8bil from 487,375 members in the first half of 2025.

This marks a 74% rise from RM1.6bil and a 48% increase in members from 330,196 in the same period last year.

The reply was to Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal on plans to encourage Malaysians to open EPF accounts.

The ministry said the i Suri programme’s 50% yearly matching incentive is extended for 2025 for eligible housewives under 55 in the e Kasih database.

The incentive is capped at RM300 a year and RM3,000 lifetime.

Meanwhile, the i Sayang programme allows husbands to transfer 2% of their monthly EPF employee share to their wives’ EPF accounts.

“Since its launch in March 2023, 158,000 husbands have joined involving RM309.4mil as of August 2025,” the ministry said.

EPF members with active employers can also choose to contribute above the statutory 11% rate at any time.

As of August 2025, 227,000 members have registered to increase their employee contribution rate.

“The EPF provides multiple channels for voluntary contributions,” the ministry said.

These include the i Akaun app, online banking, bank agent counters and EPF counters nationwide.
