Canadian PM Mark Carney departs for Singapore after four-day working visit

SEPANG: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has departed for Singapore after concluding his four-day working visit to Malaysia in conjunction with the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits held in Kuala Lumpur.

The special aircraft carrying Carney departed from the Bunga Raya Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 11.40am on Tuesday (Oct 28) following a red-carpet send-off, which included a guard of honour comprising 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.

Also present at the send-off was Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

Carney undertook the working visit, his first since assuming office in March, at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for a bilateral meeting and to attend the Asean Summit as the Guest of the Chair.

On the sidelines of the Summit, Carney and Anwar also held a bilateral meeting, in which both leaders agreed to strengthen economic and investment ties, while exploring new opportunities in green energy, innovation and education towards inclusive and sustainable growth.

He also attended the Asean Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) panel session here on Sunday (Oct 26). – Bernama
