Police nab man for stealing five iPhones from employer

KOTA TINGGI: Police have detained a mobile shop employee for allegedly stealing five units of iPhones from his workplace in October.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the suspect, a 28-year-old local man, committed the criminal breach of trust between Oct 21 and 23, causing RM7,655.44 in losses to the company.

Supt Yusof said the suspect tampered with the system, allowing him to steal the new and used phones without the company’s knowledge.

“The company only realised the phones were missing when they performed a stock take,’’ he said in a statement.

The suspect, who had been working with the company for two years, was arrested on Monday (Oct 27) following a report lodged by his employer on Thursday (Oct 23).

Supt Yusof said a remand order for the suspect will be made at the Kota Tinggi court on Tuesday (Oct 28) under Section 117 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

“The case is being investigated under Section 408 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust by a clerk,” he added.

Penalties for the offence include imprisonment for a term of at least one year and up to 14 years, a fine and whipping.
