A MALAYSIAN travel influencer was arrested in Taiwan for allegedly working as a “money mule” for a syndicate, Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported.
The Taichung City Police Department said the 33-year-old man, known only as Lin, was picked up on Oct 19 during a crackdown on a fraudulent investment scheme.
Police had earlier received a report from a victim who claimed to have been cheated by a so-called investment group of a large sum of money.
The victim said the group had demanded another payment of NT$300,000 (RM41,168.70) from him.
Officers from the Dajia precinct then set up an ambush and detained Lin, who was supposedly there to collect the money.
Police said Lin admitted that he was addicted to gambling, which left him saddled with debts.
“He said he came to Taiwan to meet his girlfriend, but in an attempt to pay off his debts, he agreed to work as a money collector for a fraud syndicate, which ultimately led to his arrest,” police said.
> Sin Chew Daily reported that Hong Kong star Raymond Lam is embarking on a world tour and is set to perform in Malaysia on Nov 15.
The singer just completed the Hong Kong leg of his Go With The Flow concert tour in May.
He said fellow actress Jessica Hsuan will be his special guest for the Malaysian concert.
“To my Malaysian fans, I want to bring Jessica Hsuan with me so we can enjoy bak kut teh together! Are you all excited?” he asked.
As for the upcoming Canada and Toronto shows, Lam hinted that actress Linda Chung might join him on stage.
“Linda’s mum actually called early to book tickets, saying she’s bringing the whole family to support me,” he said.
Asked whether Chung will be a guest performer, Lam said the actress is unsure about her schedule yet.
“Maybe everyone can help me; reach out to her online to be my special guest!” he quipped.
