Flood situation worsens in Perak, one additional relief centre opened

IPOH: The number of flood victims in Perak has risen to 3,033 individuals as of 2pm on Saturday (Oct 25), up from 2,976 at noon.

According to a statement from the Perak Civil Defence Force, another temporary relief centre (PPS) has been opened in the Manjung district, bringing the total number of operational centres in the state from 26 to 27.

A total of 1,036 families were affected, with victims housed at PPS across four districts: Larut, Matang and Selama; Manjung; Kerian and Perak Tengah.

Larut, Matang and Selama recorded the highest number of flood victims, with 2,126 individuals from 750 families placed in 19 relief centres.

This was followed by Manjung, with 594 victims from 196 families accommodated in five temporary relief centres.

In Kerian, 203 victims from 59 families are housed in two centres, while in Perak Tengah, one centre is sheltering 110 victims from 31 families.

In a separate statement, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said he was on the ground visiting several PPS in Manjung and Larut, Matang and Selama to observe the situation and ensure that assistance is being delivered to victims efficiently.

He said that all safety agencies and technical departments – including the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, police, armed forces, Social Welfare Department, Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), Public Works Department (JKR), and local authorities – have been fully mobilised to carry out rescue operations, provide basic facilities at the centres and ensure the welfare of flood victims.

At the same time, Saarani said all department heads had been instructed to activate the Skuad Ihsan Madani Penjawat Awam under the coordination of the State Secretary’s Office to assist with cleaning and recovery works once floodwaters recede.

“This measure is crucial to speed up post-flood recovery efforts and ensure that affected areas can be restored as quickly as possible.

“Residents in high-risk areas are reminded to remain vigilant, comply with the instructions of the authorities, and avoid activities near rivers, waterways or flood-prone areas,” he said.

The Perak MB added that the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), together with all safety agencies, would continue to monitor the situation closely and ensure that assistance is delivered promptly, efficiently, and comprehensively.

“I would also like to express my appreciation to all frontliners, security agencies, and local communities for their spirit of unity and cooperation in helping flood victims,” he added.
