Woman stabbed to death in suspected murder-suicide

JOHOR BARU: A foreign woman has been stabbed to death, reportedly by her former boyfriend, at a workers’ hostel along Jalan Austin Heights 8/3 here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said police were notified about the murder at 7.47pm on Monday (Oct 20).

"Initial investigations found that the incident occurred around 7.40pm and involved a 33-year-old victim who sustained multiple stab and slash wounds on her body.

"We also found the body of a male foreigner, believed to be the victim’s former boyfriend, at the scene.

"He is believed to have taken his own life after killing her," ACP Raub said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 21).

He said both the deceased were Myanmar nationals and their bodies have been sent to Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI) for post-mortem examinations.

He added that during the attack, a 23-year-old foreign woman and a 27-year-old local man were injured while trying to stop the suspect.

"The two are receiving treatment for their injuries at HSI and are reported to be in stable condition," he said.

ACP Raub said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

He urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Johor Baru South police hotline at 07-2182323.
