Chief Minister welcomes Sabah Gaza aid volunteers home

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor expressed his relief on Monday (Oct 20) that the Sumud Flotilla humanitarian volunteers from Sabah had returned safely from their mission.

Sul Aidil Sudi and Khairul Azlee Mohd Yunus paid a courtesy call to the Chief Minister and shared their encounter during the journey, which led to their detention and subsequent release by Israeli forces.

Sul from Tawau and Khairul, who is Sandakan-born, spent lunchtime with Hajiji at his official residence of Sri Gaya, where they shared their experiences and ordeal during the mission earlier this month.

Another Sabahan volunteer, Malaysian artiste Zizi Kirana, was unable to join the meeting due to a prior commitment.

Hajiji commended their bravery and expressed his relief that they all returned safely.

These three Sabahans were among 23 activists detained by Israeli forces while en route to deliver aid to Gaza on Oct 2. They safely returned to Malaysia on Oct 8.
