Tradition at the heart of Raja Muda’s bersanding
KLANG: The bersanding ceremony of Selangor Raja Muda Tengku Amir Shah and his bride Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Datuk Abdul Aziz, which will take place on Wednesday, is slated to be a resplendent affair.
It is also understood that the event will not be “over the top and too extravagant”.
Orang Besar Istana Engku Panglima Setia Diraja Datuk Syed Haizam Hishamuddin Putra Jamalullail said the bersanding ceremony will follow the same theme as the akad nikah ceremony which was held on Oct 2.
“The ceremony will be rich in tradition, adhering to the adat (tradition) of the Selangor royal family, yet maintains an understated elegance.”
As for the akad nikah ceremony, Syed Haizam said Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had ensured royal traditions were maintained.
“Tuanku values the preservation of Selangor’s royal customs and traditions, but he also sought simplicity, combining traditions with a desire for a more understated yet fitting event for the occasion,” said Syed Haizam, who is Tengku Amir Shah’s first cousin.
Syed Haizam recalled there was also apprehension about the weather during the Raja Muda’s procession from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery to Istana Alam Shah for the akad nikah.
“There was some concern over whether it would rain or if the intense heat of the ‘Klang sunshine’ would cause discomfort for everyone involved.
“However, Tuanku’s primary concern was for the well-being of the people who travelled from afar to offer their goodwill.
“Ensuring they weren’t outside for too long and that food and drinks were readily available were a priority,” said Syed Haizam.
Malaysians, following the news about the royal nuptials, are thrilled for the Raja Muda as the celebrations are an unforgettable experience.
Lawyer Datuk S. Murugesan, 57, whose home stands along the route from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery to Istana Alam Shah, was one of the several thousand people who had witnessed the historic event.
“Seeing the Raja Muda on his way to his akad nikah had united many people,” he said.
Corporate communications practitioner Fariza Daud said the Raja Muda’s akad nikah ceremony had given the people the opportunity to witness a historical event steeped in royal tradition.
“I could see that everyone who had gathered there was happy for our Raja Muda,” she added.
As for 25-year-old clerk Ena Tan, the entire event was something very new for her as she could not recall a similar royal celebration taking place during the last few decades.
“It’s a good experience and exposure for the people.
“We have witnessed something that is an important element in Selangor’s history,” said Tan.
All of them share a common hope that a procession of the royal couple will take place to commemorate the bersanding ceremony so that members of the public could also participate in the joyous occasion.
