Exporters urged to brand boldly, think globally

Kuala Lumpur: When thinking globally, the power of branding cannot be understated, opines PKT Logistics Group chief executive and managing director Datuk Seri Dr Michael Tio (pic).

He firmly believes that the National Export Awards (NEA), organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), will be essential for Malaysian exporters to thrive on the global stage.

“Awards are very important – awards are branding. I think a lot of Malaysian exporters tend to keep a very low profile,” Tio said.

He noted that this hinders their ability to expand globally, as participation in awards provides a chance to “benchmark your standards” against competitors.

“When you participate in awards, you will know that there are different competitors with different standards.

“Then, you can revisit your products and services to reposition or restrategise to improve your export quality,” said Tio.

Looking ahead, he advised exporters keen on expanding their businesses to adopt sustainable initiatives and practices, especially when targeting foreign markets in the United States and Europe.

“Don’t just talk about your revenue, profits, prices or quality – talk about what you are doing to take care of the environment and how you use sustainable materials for your products and services,” he added.

Tio expressed strong optimism about the NEA, adding that it is a reflection of the government’s commitment to support exporters.

PKT is the Silver Partner for the awards.
