UM student dies after fall at residential college


PETALING JAYA: The death of a Universiti Malaya (UM) student is being investigated by authorities following an incident that occurred at the university’s residential college on Friday (Oct 17).

In a statement, UM confirmed that the student involved in the incident had passed away while receiving treatment at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).

UM said the cause of the incident was still under investigation by the authorities.

“UM is currently providing full cooperation to assist in the investigation.

“The entire UM community expresses its sympathy to the family of the deceased.

“Through the student affairs department, the university is providing full support and assistance to the family of the deceased during this difficult time,” the statement read.

The university also urged the public to respect the privacy of the deceased’s family and to refrain from speculation or spreading unverified information related to the case.

“Any official information will be issued from time to time through the university’s Corporate Communications Centre,” it added.

Earlier, UM issued a separate statement confirming that one of its students had fallen from one of the residential colleges at about 3.30pm.
