Full investigation underway into UM student's fall from campus hostel, says Zambry


KUALA LUMPUR: A full investigation into the case of a Universiti Malaya (UM) student who died after falling from a residential college building on Friday (Oct 17) is being conducted by the authorities, says Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

In a Facebook post, the Higher Education Minister said that the Higher Education Ministry and UM were providing immediate assistance to the victim's family.

"At the moment, we are still waiting for an official statement from the police before the ministry issues any further statement," he said, expressing his condolences to the student's family.

Zambry mentioned that upon receiving news of the incident, he rushed to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM).

Meanwhile, UM announced in a statement that the student involved in the incident died while receiving treatment at PPUM.

According to the statement, the cause of the incident is still under investigation by the authorities, and UM is fully cooperating to assist in the investigation.

UM also urged all parties to respect the privacy of the student's family and not to speculate or share any unverified information regarding the incident.

"All UM staff express their deep sadness and sympathy to the deceased's family, and the Student Affairs Department is channelling assistance and providing full support to the deceased's family," the statement said. – Bernama
