PETALING JAYA: A post-mortem revealed that the student who was murdered by a schoolmate at SMK Bandar Utama 4 here sustained multiple stab wounds, sources said.

They said the extent of the Form Four student’s injuries showed she was repeatedly stabbed in a toilet cubicle and bled to death within minutes.

Clinical tests conducted during preliminary police investigations found no signs of substance abuse in the 14-year-old suspect who is in police custody following a week-long remand order.

The sources said the suspect has been cooperating with investigators, although he appeared emotionally detached during questioning.

It is learnt that investigators found out that the boy has a fascination with tactical gear, including survival knives, which he purchased through various e-commerce platforms.

A visit to the school yesterday found a noticeably smaller number of students attending classes, with a sombre and subdued atmosphere throughout the compound.

Fewer than 50 students were seen leaving the school when classes ended shortly after noon.

A parent who came to the school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, said he was there to collect his daughter’s mobile phone, which had been confiscated by teachers after the incident.

“I believe the handphones were taken away by the teachers who feared it may contain videos of the incident that could spread on social media.

“I have three children studying in the school and I told them to stay home.

“My daughter, who witnessed the suspect chasing another student during the incident, is still very shaken.

“I hope the authorities will pay greater attention to student’s mental health and provide counselling for those affected,” said the father who declined to be named.

He added that, according to his daughter, the suspect appeared to have targeted at least two other students and chased them during the rampage.

However, the students managed to bolt on seeing the suspect approaching them.

A Form Four student met outside the school said she was the only one in her class who attended yesterday, while attendance in most classes was sparse.

She said the students who turned up were instructed to gather in the school hall where counselling sessions were held.

It is learnt that several officials from the Education Ministry visited the school yesterday.

Police personnel were seen patrolling the area and keeping a close watch on students leaving for home.

The girl’s remains were released to her family yesterday morning following the post-mortem conducted at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.

A wake will be held at a funeral parlour in Kuala Lumpur until Sunday, followed by the funeral on Monday morning.
