KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,111 officers and personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department will be deployed to maintain smooth traffic flow during the 47th Asean Meeting in the capital from Oct 26 to 28.
Bukit Aman JSPT director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the deployment would comprise 91 senior police officers and 1,020 lower-rank personnel who would be responsible for traffic control, VIP escorts and enforcement of road traffic laws throughout the summit.
“The department’s operation will run from Oct 17 to 29 to ensure that all delegation movements and main routes remain controlled and secure.
“Motorcade rehearsal exercises will be held from Oct 17 to 24 involving routes from the KLIA Bunga Raya Complex and Subang Air Base to hotels around Kuala Lumpur, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) and Seri Negara,” he told a press conference on Thursday (Oct 16).
Comm Mohd Yusri stated that Malaysia would start welcoming Asean country delegations on Oct 26.
"Periodic road closures and diversions will be implemented in stages, affecting six major highways and 25 roads across Kuala Lumpur starting Oct 26 as well.
"Among the affected routes are the Lebuh KLIA, ELITE Highway, NKVE, Guthrie Corridor Expressway, North-South Expressway, MEX, KL–Seremban Highway, as well as several main roads in the city centre, including Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Parlimen and Jalan Kuching,” he said.
He advised motorists to plan their journeys, avoid affected routes and comply with instructions given by traffic personnel on duty during the period.
"The public is also encouraged to use public transport such as the LRT, MRT, Monorail and buses to reduce congestion in the city centre,” he added.
