PETALING JAYA: A special operation by the Immigration Department saw the arrest of three syndicate members who were offering fake immigration passes.
In a statement on Tuesday (Oct 14), Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said that the operation was conducted on Oct 13 along Jalan Jelawat.
Three Bangladeshi men aged between 25 and 31 years old were caught.
One of the three was also believed to be the mastermind of the group.
Investigations showed that the suspects held a student pass, a temporary employment visit pass under the construction sector and another under agriculture.
"The arresting team seized 21 Bangladeshi passports, a Myanmar passport, and 21 pages of biodata information. All are believed to be fake. The team also seized four phones, a computer and a knife.
"The group's modus operandi involved falsifying documents by using fake passports that had been modified by the syndicate and getting members to use them for Foreign Workers’ Medical Examination Monitoring Agency (Fomema) medical examinations.
"Their market includes foreigners within the Klang Valley who are unfit for the medical examinations," he said.
Each customer would pay between RM200 and RM350 for each fake passport and medical check.
"It is believed that they had been operating for the last two months. This is the third such bust for syndicates operating under this modus operandi," he said.
All suspects have been brought to the Putrajaya Immigration Department for further action.
