SANDAKAN: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) said it is up to former Sipitang MP Datuk Yamani Hafez Musa to disclose whether he has become a member of the party.
Its secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said while there has been talk of Yamani’s possible entry into PKR, she would respect his right to decide when or if he wants to make it public.
“Even though I’m the secretary-general, I respect individual rights. So it’s best to ask him. If he doesn’t want to announce it, that’s his right,” she told reporters when met after her working visit to Mydin Hypermarket here on Sunday (Oct 12).
The PKR central leadership council had earlier said it would decide on Sept 28 whether to approve Yamani’s membership application, but there have been no developments to date.
Yamani, former deputy finance minister, is the eldest son of Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman, and is speculated to be among PKR’s potential candidates for the Sindumin seat — one of the seats the party is eyeing in the coming state election.
The seat is currently held by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, who was recently charged in connection with alleged graft involving Sabah mining prospecting licences.
Meanwhile, Fuziah dismissed claims of discontent among PKR grassroots in Sabah over central leadership involvement in managing the state election, saying it stemmed from misunderstandings that have since been resolved.
“I met the branch leaders who were said to have made those statements, and they clarified that it actually came from only one or two individuals,” she said.
“After our discussions, everyone agreed that our goal is to strengthen the party and ensure victory for the Prime Minister’s leadership. The spirit to win the election is strong.”
Fuziah added that all election machinery at the division and state constituency levels would be managed by local teams, assisted by "pimpinan angkat" (adopted leaders) from other states providing logistical support.
“These leaders are not here to dictate but to help — for instance, if an operations room needs computers or a photocopy machine, we’ll help provide them,” she said.
Earlier Sunday (Oct 12), Sabah PKR Youth chief Zaidi Jatil also dismissed speculation of internal dissent over candidate selection, saying the recent meeting with division chiefs was held in the spirit of unity and mutual understanding.
