BATU PAHAT: A teenage motorcycle pillion rider has died in an accident involving six vehicles on the North-South Expressway near Ayer Hitam here.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the pile-up, involving three motorcycles, an express bus, a car and a van, took place at KM75.6 southbound of the expressway at around 2.30am on Sunday (Oct 12).

“Initially, a three-motorcycle accident took place, which caused one of the riders, a 16-year-old boy and the 14-year-old pillion rider, to be flung onto the road.

“After that, the bus, car and van traveling along the expressway could not avoid the crash site in time and collided with each other,” he said in a statement.

He said the 14-year-old, Muhammad Ammar Zafran Khairul Nizam, succumbed to severe injuries to his head and limbs, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 16-year-old rider was rushed to the hospital for medical attention for his injuries, he added.

The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which addresses causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
