KOTA KINABALU: The body of a man who went missing while spearfishing in Pitas has been found.
The 42-year-old was reported missing at around 8am on Thursday (Oct 9) by a friend, and found by villagers and relatives at 7.36am on Friday (Oct 10).
Pitas fire station chief Noor Jali Maslah said the victim’s body was found floating near the area where he was last seen.
"The family identified him. The body was brought to shore using a villager’s boat," he said in a statement.
The body was later handed over to the police and taken to the hospital for further action.
The victim went spearfishing with some friends and was reported lost when his friends noticed that his boat had drifted away and he was not on board.
One of them swam to the boat to retrieve it and waited in vain for the victim to resurface.
