Floods: Situation in Kedah improves, 107 evacuees still at one relief centre

ALOR SETAR: The number of flood evacuees housed at one temporary relief centre in Kedah continues to drop as conditions improve, with only 107 people from 32 families remaining as of Thursday (Oct 9) morning.

Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM) deputy director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said the evacuees are being housed at the temporary relief centre at SK Langgar here, which has been operating since Sunday (Oct 5).

"The evacuees comprise residents from Kampung Alor Raja, Makam Diraja, Limbong, Alor Setol, Pondok Haji Ahmad, Pokok Asam, Tanjung Inggeris, Alor Besar, Pagar Air, and Pondok Syeikh in the Langgar/Limbong sub-districts.

"The water level at Sungai Janing in Padang Terap was recorded at 26.21m, exceeding the warning level of 26m, while Sungai Pendang in Pendang registered 2.34m, slightly above the alert level of 2.3m,” he added. – Bernama
