Biker, 19, killed in four-vehicle collision in Sarawak


KOTA SAMARAHAN: A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed while seven others were injured in a four-vehicle collision along Jalan Samarahan Road Bypass, Stutong Baru, on Tuesday (Oct 7).

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement that it received a distress call at 9.24am concerning the accident involving two motorcycles and two multi-purpose vehicles (MPV).

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that the accident involved eight victims — six men and two women. Seven of them sustained minor injuries while the motorcyclist died at the scene due to severe injuries,” the department said.

Firefighters used rescue tools to remove a senior citizen from one of the MPVs. The victim was given initial treatment by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit before being handed over to the Health Mministry ambulance team for further treatment.

“All victims with minor injuries were sent to hospital for medical attention. Cleaning work at the scene was also carried out to remove debris and ensure road safety,” the department added.

The deceased motorcyclist has been identified as Mohd Irfan Waiz, 19. His body has been handed over to the police for further action.
