Johor cops nab two cable theft suspects

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested two men for suspected involvement in a series of cable theft cases since September.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the duo, believed to be friends, were arrested between Sept 27 and 29.

"We found a large sack containing about 8kg of cables, believed to have been stolen from construction and industrial sites around Gelang Patah.

"We believe they have been selling the stolen cables to a scrap shop in Masai and are involved in at least four cable theft cases," he told a press conference here on Monday (Oct 6).

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 414 of the Penal Code for assisting in hiding stolen goods and Section 447 for criminal trespass.

"One of the suspects, a Rohingya man, is also being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said.

On another matter, ACP Kumarasan also confirmed that a man in his 40s is missing after going fishing at Kampung Tebing Runtoh here.

"We can confirm that a search and rescue (SAR) operation is still ongoing to locate the missing man.

"He is believed to have been fishing with another man, who was found earlier this morning," he said.

In a statement earlier, the Johor Fire and Rescue Department said that a man went missing while out fishing.
