Police arrest foreign labourer, seize homemade firearm in Mukah raid

MUKAH: A 53-year-old foreign labourer was arrested for having a homemade firearm and drugs in his possession at an oil palm plantation in Lubok Bemban on Friday (Oct 3).

Mukah OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Rizal Alias said the raid on the hut at the plantation was carried out at about 11.30am by the district Narcotics Crime Investigation Division following information and intelligence.

“During the inspection, police found four transparent plastic packets and one plastic straw containing crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine,” he said.

He said the drugs weighed 8.54 grams and were worth an estimated RM854.

Asst Comm Muhammad Rizal said police also uncovered a homemade shotgun barrel, locally known as a bakakuk, together with six bullets.

He said the suspect tested negative for drugs but admitted involvement in small-scale drug sales since early this year.

He said the suspect told police the firearm was inherited from his father.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960,” he said.

The suspect is remanded for three days until October 7 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to facilitate investigations.
