KUALA LUMPUR: A 28-year-old female Chinese national was detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after she was suspected of using a forged travel document in an attempt to leave the country on Friday (Oct 3).
The Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said the incident occurred around 6.30pm at the International Departure Hall of KLIA Terminal 2 when an officer on duty noticed something suspicious during a document inspection.
"The woman was scheduled to board a flight bound for Kunming, which was set to depart at 9.30pm.
"Initial investigations revealed that the woman had presented an Electronic Pass (E-Pass) dated July 22 and valid until July 20 next year. However, checks showed that the document did not exist in the system and was believed to be falsified and irregularly obtained," the agency said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 4).
Following the discovery, the woman was arrested for allegedly committing an offence under the Immigration Act.
"She is currently being held at the KLIA2 Immigration Depot before being handed over to the KLIA Enforcement Division for further investigation and action.
"We remain committed to ensuring the highest level of control at the nation’s entry points and will not compromise on any attempts involving the misuse of travel documents or breaches of immigration laws," it added.
The agency also urged members of the public to cooperate by providing information on any suspicious activities at the country’s entry points to strengthen Malaysia’s border security and sovereignty.
