MELAKA: Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) here has achieved its highest-ever undergraduate intake, with 3,877 students registering for the 2025/26 academic session.
Its Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Massila Kamalrudin said the figure is a sharp rise from 2,896 new students last year, the increase of 981 or 34% reflecting the university's growing reputation as Malaysia’s leading technical and vocational education and training (TVET) university.
"Since 2022, enrolments have risen consistently from 2,043 that year to 2,530 in 2023, followed by 2,896 last year.
"This year, the jump has been extraordinary," she said on Friday (Oct 3).
She added that UTeM’s strong performance was driven by its graduate employability rate, which stood at 97.7% in 2023 and 98.1% last year, as well as its recent recognition with the Employers’ Choice of University Award.
She said the new session also welcomed the first cohort of 279 students under the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity (FAIX), offering programmes in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) and Computer Science (Computer Security).
Prof Massila said other strong intakes were recorded at the faculties of Electrical Engineering Technology (665 students), Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology (624), Mechanical Engineering Technology (653), Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Technology (396), Information and Communication Technology (647), as well as 613 for Technology Management and Technopreneurship.
She said a total of 795 diploma students registered earlier in July, while about 200 more are expected to be registered through the appeal process on Oct 13.
