Sibu man sentenced to life in jail for drug trafficking


SIBU: A car accessories dealer has been sentenced to life imprisonment for drug trafficking here.

The accused, John Ting Sing Fong, 37, was convicted on four charges on Sept 26.

High Court judge Wong Siong Tung on Wednesday (Oct 1) sentenced Ting to life imprisonment on the first charge of trafficking 70.78g of methamphetamine under section 39B(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and 12 strokes of the cane.

On the second charge of possessing of 26.7g of ketamine, Ting was sentenced to two years' jail under Section 12(2) of the same Act, and another four years' jail on the third charge of possessing 119.52g of ketamine.

He was also sentenced to one year's jail on the fourth charge of possessing 1.55g of MDMA.

All offences were committed at about 8am on May 8, 2023 in a car behind a commercial building in Jalan Pahlawan here.
