KUALA LUMPUR: China-Malaysia trade reached an impressive US$131.84bil (RM606.46bil) in the first eight months of the year, proving the robust economic ties between both nations.

Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, who disclosed this, said the achievement reflected the growing economic interdependence and strategic bilateral collaboration.

“Our trade relations continue to thrive, bringing mutual benefit and fostering economic growth in both regions,” he said at a reception here to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Tuesday evening.

Ouyang also noted a significant influx of Chinese tourists to Malaysia, which hit a historic high of 2.78 million in the first seven months of the year, further strengthening cultural and economic links between both sides.

“As a new chapter begins, we continue to write the story of renewed brilliance and shared prosperity.

“Let’s carry forward the friendship between China and Malaysia, strengthen strategic communication, deepen practical cooperation, and bring more benefits to our people,” he added.

Highlighting recent high-level visits by leaders from both countries, he said these significantly boosted the China-Malaysia community.

The envoy said China’s foreign policy has shifted from maintaining independence to promoting stability and advancing the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity.

He cited collaboration with partner countries on the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilisation Initiative, which collectively fostered consensus and synergy for unity, development, security and civilisational progress.

“China will continue to offer development opportunities to countries worldwide, including Malaysia, as we work together towards a brighter and more prosperous future,” said Ouyang.

Earlier, Ouyang exchanged toasts with Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who was the special guest at the event held at a hotel.

Also present were Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, party vice-presidents Datuk Lim Ban Hong and Datuk Lawrence Low and MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon.

Star Media Group (SMG) group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt was also in attendance.

Guests were treated to captivating cultural performances featuring traditional dances and songs performed by various vocalists, adding a rich cultural dimension to the evening.
