Peter Anthony's daughter Priscella to defend his Melalap seat on KDM ticket

KOTA KINABALU: Priscella Peter, daughter of jailed Parti KDM president Datuk Peter Anthony, will contest her father's Melalap seat in Sabah's interior at Tenom.

Priscella, who is acting president of the party, said she would defend her father's seat in a bid to carry on his legacy.

“It’s not an easy task," she said during a visit to the constituency on Tuesday (Sept 30).

Priscella said that she believed people would continue to support her.

"My father’s spirit is always with me, always with the people of Melalap," she said, confirming that she would be KDM's candidate for the seat in the upcoming 17th state election.

"I am offering myself as a candidate not just because of my father but for the people of Melalap who still hope for ongoing development,” she added.

Peter first won the seat in the 2018 state election on a Warisan ticket and subsequently defended the seat for a second term in the 2020 snap state election.

However, in 2022, Peter left Warisan to form KDM, a native-based party that has, in recent years, become the opposition to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government after a brief period of courting.

Peter was jailed for three years and RM50,000 by the Sessions Court for a forgery offence under Section 468 of the Penal Code.

Peter began serving his term in March this year after exhausting his appeals in the higher courts.
