Fadillah: Malaysia's first waqaf-based hospital to be completed in 2028

SEMENYIH: Malaysia's first syariah-compliant and waqaf-based hospital in Semenyih is expected to be completed and fully operational in 2028, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He stated that the hospital would not only function as a modern, high-tech healthcare facility operating in accordance with Islamic laws and commercial ethics, but would also be structured on the waqf concept to ensure sustainability and fulfil its social mission.

"I pray for the smooth progress of this project. My principle is always to complete ahead of time, without extensions (EOT). The sooner it is completed, the better for the rakyat.

"Ensure it is delivered on schedule, within the required standards, quality and budget," he said at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Semenyih Specialist Hospital here on Tuesday (Sept 30), with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar also present.

He added that the hospital would be developed on a 2.6-acre (one-hectare) site with a built-up area of 783,566 square feet, including parking facilities. It would provide 261 beds across multidisciplinary specialties and would be operated by An-Nur Healthcare Sdn Bhd.

"I was also informed that Semenyih Specialist Hospital aims to become the Southern Medical Gateway by providing high-quality healthcare services and improving accessibility for a large segment of the southern states' population.

"This model can be expanded nationwide, not only in healthcare but also in education, housing and social development. Hopefully, the hospital will stand as a landmark showing that healthcare and religious development can progress together," he said.

Fadillah expressed hope that the developer would integrate green technology into the project.

Meanwhile, Mohd Na'im expressed confidence that the project would serve as a catalyst for the establishment of waqf hospital networks nationwide.

"This hospital is an initiative of Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia in collaboration with Highfield Healthcare Sdn Bhd, serving as a pioneer model for waqf specialist hospitals.

"Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia envisions that each state will one day have its own waqf specialist hospital, supported by the corporate sector, State Islamic Religious Councils, the Health Ministry, Islamic banking institutions and other stakeholders," he said.

He said the hospital will also be equipped with worship-friendly facilities, including the Quran, patient worship guides, prayer rooms, tayammum (dry ablution) facilities and spiritual support. – Bernama
