SEPANG: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has taken preventive measures to ensure Zionist propaganda does not penetrate the nation’s cyberspace, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil (pic).
He said MCMC is actively monitoring the algorithms of social media platforms to block any false or misleading content that may be disseminated by the regime.
Fahmi said the government has also held engagement sessions with social media operators to convey Malaysia’s firm stance of not compromising on the matter.
“Proactive and continuous engagement with these platforms will send a strong signal. We will continue to counter and block algorithms carrying Zionist regime propaganda from entering Malaysia.
“Malaysia, as a sovereign nation, has the right to state its position, and these platforms have agreed with the views we conveyed,” he said after visiting the Sumud Nusantara Operations Centre here yesterday, Bernama reported.
Fahmi said the government’s firmness was also reflected in a series of meetings with TikTok regarding the appointment of a former Israel Defence Forces (IDF) trainer as its content manager in the United States.
“The presence of someone who trained the IDF does not send out a good message for TikTok, and so we have put forth our concerns,” he said.
He also reminded the public not to fall victim to Zionist propaganda regarding the situation in Palestine and the Global Sumud Flotilla initiative.
“For example, in some countries, there have been viral claims that several Global Sumud Flotilla ships were attacked by Israeli commandos, when in fact such incidents did not occur,” he said.
Fahmi said the flotilla mission will soon enter the Yellow Zone, where the risk of interception by Israeli forces is high.
He said the latest status of all 47 ships and 34 Malaysians participating in the mission was conveyed by the Malaysian Consul-tative Council of Islamic Organi-sations chief executive officer Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim.
Drawing from past missions, Fahmi said the zone, which begins 300 nautical miles from Gaza, has a history of being harassed by the Zionist regime, and similar incidents are expected this time.
“Given that there have been incidents in Tunisia and several disruptions elsewhere, we must also expect incidents in the Yellow Zone,” he said.
Fahmi said the government, through the Foreign Ministry, is constantly monitoring the mission’s movement to ensure the safety of all Malaysians involved, with Wisma Putra ready to provide updates on any new developments.
He said the government fully supports the Global Sumud Flotilla and Sumud Nusantara initiatives.
“We are at a historic moment where the world will no longer remain silent and allow the illegal state of Israel and the Zionist regime to do whatever they want,” he said.
During his visit, Fahmi was briefed on the current status of the mission and also held a video call with the seven Malaysians on board the flotilla.
The flotilla’s voyage across the Mediterranean Sea carries food supplies, medicine and a message of peace, urging an end to war and the famine crisis, while also demanding the opening of a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.
