JOHOR BARU: Johor recorded a drastic decline in cumulative dengue cases with 4,710 in the epidemiological week 39 (Epi Week) this year compared with Epi Week 39 in 2024.
State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the decline represented 57.7%, against the 11,145 cases recorded in the corresponding period last year.
“There was an increase in dengue cases for Epi Week 39, with 83, against 76 cases in Epi Week 38," he said in a statement.
Ling said from the 4,710 cases, 1,458 (31 %) were epidemic locality cases, while 3,252 cases (69%) were non-locality.
He said there were death cases recorded for Epi Week 39, this year with the cumulative death cases remaining at eight, compared with 17 cases for Epi Week 39, in 2024.
Ling said Johor Baru district has the highest number of cases with 64 (77.1%), Batu Pahat on the second spot with five (6.8%), Muar, Segamat and Tangkak recorded one case each (2.4%) respectively.
He added Kulai, Kota Tinggi, Mersing and Pontian, each has one case (1.2%), while there were no cases reported in Kluang.
Ling said there were seven dengue hot spots in Johor Baru namely Bandar, Jelutong, Plentong, Pulai, Sungai Tiram, Tebrau and Tanjung Kupang in Gelang Patah.
He said the 14 hot spots in Batu Pahat were Bagan, Chaah Baru, Kampung Bahru, Linau, Lubok, Minyak Beku, Peserai, Simpang Kanan, Simpang Kiri, Sri Gading, Sri Medan, Sungai Kluang, Sungai Punggor and Tanjung Sembrong.
