Court sets Oct 31 to hear outcome of teacher's bid to have sexual assault charges dropped


SEREMBAN: The Sessions Court here has fixed Oct 31 to hear the outcome of a representation filed by a teacher facing three charges of sexually assaulting two 15-year-old schoolgirls.

Judge Surita Budin set the date on Monday (Sept 29) after lawyer P. Bhaerabii told the court that the defence would be submitting a representation when the case came up for mention.

Muhamad Asyraf Ahmad, 36, a teacher at a Rembau school, allegedly committed the offence against the first victim in a classroom around 1.30pm in April this year and around 9.30am on May 16.

He also allegedly committed the offence against the second victim around 10.40am on May 5.

He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(1).

Offenders can be jailed for up to 20 years and caned upon conviction.

Asyraf claimed trial when he was charged on Aug 28 and is out on RM20,000 bail.
