KDM betting on local stars to connect with voters in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: One of Sabah’s newest political parties is fielding a local singer, a former senior civil servant and an ex-footballer in hopes of striking a chord with voters at the upcoming 17th state election.

Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) named veteran singer John Samud, former state finance ministry permanent secretary Datuk Rusdin Riman and ex-Sabah footballer Henry Saimpon among its latest line-up of candidates.

Deputy president Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, who is also the party’s election director, announced the three during the Semarak Perpaduan KDM event in Paginatan, Ranau, on Saturday (Sept 27).

He said Saimpon would contest in Kiulu, Samud in Tempasuk and Rusdin in Paginatan.

KDM has also earlier disclosed several other candidates, including Datuk Jeffry Mohd Ali (Kundasang), Dr Oswald Aisat Igau (Tulid), Dr Gaim Lunkapis (Tamparuli), McKery Victor (Moyog) and Datuk Almudin Kaida (Pintasan).

Formed just three years ago, KDM had earlier announced plans to contest between 38 and 42 seats.
