KUALA LUMPUR: The rollout of the Budi Madani RON95 subsidy programme for police and Armed Forces personnel proceeds smoothly on Saturday (Sept 27), drawing strong support and curiosity from many eager to see how the mechanism works.
Personnel who spoke to The Star expressed pride that implementation began with the Armed Forces and police.
The Taman Setiawangsa Petronas station near police and Armed Forces quarters was busy since early on Saturday with many trying out the programme, some out of curiosity.
Malaysian Army Warrant Officer Mohd Rafi Abdul Malek said topping up petrol was smooth and swift after he produced his MyKad and paid the station cashier.
“Many of my colleagues have done the same and are very satisfied with the hassle-free process,” he said.
Sjn Azizah Abd Aziz from the army arrived past noon to fill RM5 of petrol for her motorcycle and was surprised to receive an additional 15 sen worth of RON95 from the RM1.99 per litre price.
Royal Malaysian Air Force Warrant Officer Mohamad Zakir Othman, who chose to buy petrol directly from the pump, said he only had to insert his MyKad and swipe his credit card.
“It was seamless and I give my full support to this programme as it safeguards the special subsidy meant only for Malaysians,” he said.
Kpl Mohd Nor Afiq Zulkifli, who is attached to KL police, said the programme helps prevent subsidy leakages and brings savings.
He said he was happy the process of buying petrol was fast and convenient.
The station cashier, Raja Mohamed Haziq, who manned an outdoor payment counter, said dozens of Armed Forces and police personnel topped up fuel since early on Saturday (Sept 27).
“We anticipated a larger turnout and were prepared.
“It went smoothly without a glitch. Many were surprised to receive extra fuel from the savings and asked if the kiosks had dispensed more, but we explained it was the reduced price,” he said.
